The Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) student chapter of ETH Zurich was founded in spring 2003. We currently comprise about 40 members among which are students from Bachelor to PhD level, senior researchers and alumni - and about 15 of these take part in the meetings. We are interested in geological processes responsible for the formation of economic mineral deposits as well as further economic application of geologic research. Even though being from different geological backgrounds our members have a common interest in sharing and discussing their ideas, discovering new perspectives, and getting insights in the world beyond the classroom.
Apart from our regular meetings, discussions and presentations by invited speakers, we have organized numerous fieldtrips to interesting sites in South Africa, Italy, South America, Spain, Russia, Bulgaria, Germany, Turkey, Romania, Canada, Sweden, Finland, Ireland, and Poland over the last few years. We also take part in the organization of several seminars at ETH Zurich and collaborate not only with the ETH working group "Economic Geology" led by Prof. Christoph Heinrich but also with other SEG student chapters around the world.
Whether you are interested in a career as an exploration or mine geologist, curious about post-study options or just want to find out more about the applied side of geology - come by at one of our events or monthly meetings to discover more!
